I had been using a mooncup for many years with mostly no issue and decided to treat myself to a new one as the old one had become discoloured and there was nothing I could do to sort it. I went for this as I read it was suitable for those with a high cervix.

On the plus side, this one does not give you that snapping feeling against the walls of your vag when you put it in and form the seal. It’s not painful but still a shock every time. When the seal is made properly, you can’t feel it. I think this is because the material is softer than the rubber used for the mooncup.

On the flipside, the seal is so effective around the cervix, the cup can be painful to take out. If you look at the cup, there is a sort of lip inside, which helps to form the grip. This means you have to be so precise when you put it in, otherwise you can feel it.

I have been using this exclusively for 5 months since purchase and recently have noticed that wearing this gives me additional cramps. I think maybe because of the suction on the cervix. So I will be going back to my trusty mooncup.

I bought this after taking an online quiz to help you decide which cup to buy. I have been told by nurses I have a long vagina and a tilted uterus, but have never given birth, and this may have affected the recommendation.

There’s good and bad. The good: it’s made of a nice soft, thin silicone that’s easy to fold. It looks nice in the pink colour it comes in. Once ‘installed,’ it sits comfortably so you can’t feel it’s there. The stem is of a shape and length that it’s there for you to grab when you need to, but it doesn’t need to be trimmed all the way off or else cause a recurrent pinching sensation (unlike my old moon cup). Unlike previous cups I’ve owned, it stays where you put it and doesn’t wander off out of reach when it’s time to remove/empty it. The design of the opening enables you to pour out the contents without making a mess.

The bad: the shape of the opening at the top makes it bulky when folded. It has to be folded to be inserted. If, like me, you don’t especially enjoy having anything inserted, this can be uncomfortable or even painful.

Still, I would rather endure that bit of awkward discomfort for the many pro’s of using this. I have dabbled in reusable towels and period pants, and found cups to be the most pleasant and convenient alternative to tampons by far. Just as long as they stay put and save you the embarrassment of having to ask a partner to help you find and remove it.

I lost my old cup, and i was looking for the new one. I decided for Lily because it was a bit more expensive (about 16 gbp) than other cups. I wanted to see if the higher price would make any difference.

When i tried it for the first time, i was just thinking that it is so big (size S), horrible and that i want to return it. I would place it but it would still stay partially folded instead of fully opening up, what convinced me that there would be a leakage (but i still decided to keep it in, only to see if it will somehow work ????). To my surprise, once i was getting it out few hours later, i noticed that it actually did open up by itself and it perfectly kept everything inside. Now i can say that it is one of the best cups i had. Don’t feel it when inside (even though it does seem big), and no leakage at all.

The trick is when you put it to try to unfold it as much as you can (don’t exaggerate, just be gentle), and to leave it… it will unfold by itself later.

Before this cup, i used for quite a long time BeYou, which wasn’t bad but would sometimes have leakage.

    🙂

I’d tried one other menstrual cup before this, and found it almost impossible to insert, and very painful. This one was so much better, thanks to the softness of the silicone and and the shape of the rim! It is quite long, so don’t use it if you have a low cervix. I find it can the stem can be slightly irritating sometimes, but I think I probably just need more practise. I haven’t used it long enough to say whether it is completely leak-proof, but so far it seems fantastic, and so much more comfortable than other cups I’d tried.

Warning: this may be slightly TMI/personal but as you’re reading this I’m hoping that this might be helpful information to some.

Having first gone off of reviews on my first menstrual cup (and hoping I didn’t have to turn into Goldilocks on my quest for the ideal cup – as it’s not the sort of thing you can re-sell I was slightly concerned how many cups I’d have to try) I realised very quickly that our needs are all different. I first opted for the Saalt soft thinking that was a safe option, it was quite a first experience that resulted in what could only be described as a blood bath…literally pun intended(!) it was too soft and small for my needs – but this isn’t a review on the Saalt it did lead me to the Lily Cup…

I decided on the Lily Cup mainly because of my heavier flow and higher cervix. Decided to try for the size B even though I haven’t had children (I normally do as I’m told but decided to go with my gut in this one). I must say the experience I’ve had is a 180 from the Saalt. The more firmer material makes it much easier to insert, grab and remove. As it’s designed for those with a higher cervix it is longer/bigger than the Saalt but considering we’re designed to give birth it wasn’t a big deal for me. You can keep the cup in for up to 12 hours but you know your body and flow best. I think it’s brilliant and wished we were better educated back in the day as it would have saved a lot of embarrassment and leakages!

The biggest tip I have is to relax and if it’s your first time, to not do it when you’re in a rush or out in public. Persevere, and take the time to find the right cup for you. Once you do it’s life changing!
