Was a tad disappointed when i put the cap on to find out it had a big slit at the side so i couldn’t use my kit. Will need to pop to local shop and buy a new cap but other than that i think this kit is brilliant

I’ve used Jerome Russell bleach in the past with excellent results, but that was many years ago.

I did two strand tests to find the suitable processing time for my hair (virgin light brown) – the first I left for 40 minutes, and it was a dark yellow with orange tones. The second strand test I left for 60 minutes, and it was still yellow and not at all close to a nice blonde shade, but I thought a toner would help to get to the right shade. I didn’t find it very damaging, but with 40% developer I expected it to have processed much faster – I wonder if they have changed the ingredients from when I last used it… In the past I’ve used this with a processing time of 30 minutes with excellent results…

I applied this with a brush to create balayage highlights, so I can’t comment on the cap (my hair is too long to use something like this).

I ended up going ahead with applying with a brush to create highlights and left it for 60 minutes. I’m not a stranger to dying my own hair, the bleach was well mixed and the hair was evenly saturated yet the result was a mix of orange and yellow, much more so than the strand test, which was strange as my hair was not colour treated previously. As stated above I had used this product years ago with excellent results in a short processing time, so I don’t know what has changed.

I applied the Jerome Russell mid blonde toner in hopes of reducing the brassiness, and found it made no difference at all. I followed up with purple shampoos, and whilst it helped reduce some yellow I still had brassy orange tones in places.

Ultimately I ended up waiting a painful week with horrible orange tones in my hair, and then applying a light ash brown semi permanent colour to hide the highlights.

As above, luckily it wasn’t too damaging and my hair is in good condition. I am waiting a little longer and will be applying a permanent dye to cover the results of using this kit!

I personally like this product if my hairdresser isn’t available to book and I do it myself for a quick instant fix – used it during 2020 and have continued 🙂 – but its def for someone with medium blonde or potentially light brown blondish hair and does lift okay if you have that colour hair like me – timings critical and just keep checking is all I can say because I wouldn’t want to leave it on any longer than 45 mins Max. I have never used the cap = too Rubbish in my opinion, I purchased hair dressing foil off Amazon which lasts ages and works way better in my opinion, it’s easier to get a friend to help with the highlighting as it needs weaving of strands. I like this product for a quick fix of rootage 🙂

I find this bleach takes to my hair the best without any burning. I’m a male and highlight my hair regularly. Whilst it’s a good product, the cap is very cheap and rips very easily as I’ve learned previously, so I use a silicone cap instead

So I’m pretty impressed. I was so worried this would go wrong but, it didn’t! I’ll outline negatives then positives… Its important….

Firstly, the cap provided is hideous. It rips and you can bring through too much hair in some areas due to this. The holes rip as its hard to pull through the plastic and cap. So basically, the cap is lined with a plastic layer on the inside. It’s really hard to use. I’d buy a silicone cap that’s built for this. The brush provided is flimsy and small. We ditched it in the end and smothered the mix on wearing gloves provided. One other person to help out with the back would be handy (pulling hair through and smothering dye evenly) It’s hard otherwise, to do on your own.

My hair is half way down my back & thick, so I used two boxes, which was perfect. I also timed 15 mins and checked, left it for an extra 10mins and happy with the results.

I pulled my hair out the cap and immediately washed it with the shampoo provided, however, I then used a toner (purple shampoo) for better results. I deeply conditioned my hair (they don’t provide conditioner) and then dried it. My hair was soft and just looked fantastic. Also the highlights are pretty much close to the root, which makes me think, this will last a long time.

My hair looks wonderful and natural! So very happy!

I did watch a guide on you tube for this dye / highlight kit, which I encourage you to watch before you buy! This isn’t pain free, the pulling of hair can be sore.. Ouchies!

Based on the above, I would absolutely recommend this! I think someone with shorter hair won’t have issues with the cap, however, I still think that a better cap provided should be imperative!

Brilliant, natural, summery look… Get yourself a box or two!

My husband helped me with the cap and the hook and I think it came out really well. I did a strand text first to get my timings right but it went lighter as the developer hat made it warm up. I used a purple conditioner afterwards. My hair was the same colour as the mid brown on the box before. Plus it came with a 1.5mm crochet hook which I will add to my other crochet hooks.

Effective lightening kit with clear instructions and multiple dying methods (highlights, full dye, top-up, etc). Great value. You will need multiple kits if you have long and/or thick hair.
