So much easier to use than other products (L’Oreal Preference Helsinki used to leave the ends of my hair slighty more darker than the rest and very fiddly to use but it felt terrible after rinsing out and before the conditioner applied).

This mousse really does seem to avoid patchy bits as it says. Still trying to find quite the right colour as I’ve tried two shades of blonde now (going darker) -currently medium blonde. Very happy with it. Hair feels good even after only the mousse has been washed out and before the conditioner but fab conditioner. Shine is incredible straight after using it. Only possible downside is that it seems to come out slightly lighter than it looks on the box – still happy though so probably a good first time colouring to try as it looks natural and not too drastic.

I’ve been using John Frieda Precision Hair Foam (Dark Golden Blonde shade) regularly for about 2 years and have always been pleased with the results on my mostly grey/white hair. I personally find the ‘foam’ formulation much easier and less messy to apply than cream-style hair dyes. Whether, with this particular shade, my resulting hair colour could really be referred to as ‘blonde’ is a bit debatable. On me, it produces a kind of pale golden brown, which other people have variously described (at least to my face!) as ‘honey blonde’ or ‘light caramel’. However, it can be ‘hit and miss’ trying to find this particular hair dye in high street shops/chemists, so I usually buy several boxes at a time via Amazon when it’s being sold at a good price.

My hair was originally a very patchy light-mid brown that also looked very brassy (hey that’s what happens when you bleach). I knew from the start that this wasn’t going to go the full blond colour on the box. I only wanted it to make my hair came out less patchy, brassy, and prevent it going darker. It accomplished these things. The top half of my hair is slightly darker than the colour on the box while the bottom half is a more natural light brown (the bottom half was darker than the top to begin with so the difference isn’t due to this hair dye). The patchiness and brassy look have mostly gone. The only reason it lost a star was due to the frazzled effect it had on hair despite the intense conditioner, although that’s nothing their de-frizz serum doesn’t fix.

My first time of using the John Frieda Precision Foam Colour was in January, when I managed to completely cover up 2″ of natural dark blonde hair, the rest of my hair that had a horribe faded red in it, plus my own DIY highlights….quite a feat! It did it, no problem!

As I said, I have very dark blonde, fine hair. The Dark Cool Pearl Blonde 7PBN

John Frieda Precision Foam Colour Salon Blends 7PBN Dark Cool Pearl Blonde

covered everything, and was about half a shade lighter than my natural hair, so the roots did start to show. The colour was ok, but I really wanted something different from ‘mousy’, which that colour is.

6.5 weeks after using the 7PBN, and I decided to try this one. It’s 2.5 weeks later now, and I really am not keen on the colour. It is very orangy looking, which I kind of guessed it might be, as to my eye, the blonde coloured photo on the box, does look a bit orangy/golden, even though the helpline assured me that the ‘N’ behind the colour number means that it is neither a warm nor a cool tone…it’s a ‘natural’ tone. My hair has always tended towards the ‘orange’ when I colour it blonde. It covered the roots perfectly though.

So far, I would say that the two colours I have tried have come out pretty accurately, given that I obviously have red tones in my natural hair. I am not that keen on the conditioner. I have had much better conditioners in home colour kits.

    Disadvantages:
    – not the best conditioner
    – colours do generally come out darker than on the packet, but fade a bit after the first few washes
    – this particular shade is a bit ‘orange’ on me
    – not a huge amount of shades to choose from (this is main reason I may not end up regularly using the Precision Foam)
    – more expensive than other home colourants, although they are on sale for much of the time….currently this one is £4.50!

    Advantages:
    – covers a LOT of sins! …roots, highlights (although they will show up very subtly esp with time), other hair colours….even red/chestnut!
    – helpful and accessable, free helpline (0800 652 1496)
    – not patchy
    – easy to use foam (no dripping)

    Time taken:
15 mins to put colour on
20 mins for leaving colour on
Total time taken from starting, to getting out of the shower at the end: 1 hour

    Nothing to dislike
The way the liquid is mixed and dispensed is new to me but a very effective result. Easily transferred to the hair without the usual drips, dribbles and runs. This technique is a clever ploy; just squeeze the bottle and collect the rich creamy in your palm and transfer it to the hair
The colour is good too even for the white-haired, It is simple to get the 100% coverage
Congratulations and thanks to John FRIEDA and his boffins

My natural hair colour is very dark blonde, going darker as I get older (I’m 43). I had some bleached highlights done in April which I hated, so decided to try and ‘equalise’ the colour with a home kit. I chose this product as I was a first timer, it seemed easy to use and as I have M.E. I can’t spend ages on my feet messing about. I found it very easy to use, a firm foam which didn’t spray or drip anywhere. I used the whole box as my hair is below shoulder length. The smell wasn’t too horrendous, my eyes didn’t water and my scalp wasn’t irritated any further than it already is (itchy scalp). The included conditioner is very effective. The colour worked very well and hair just looks highlighted now. Overall it’s no lighter or darker than I expected, but has more orangey tones than I would have liked. I’m going to try the ash blonde next time. Three weeks on, my hair is quite dry, but I did expect this, and am conditioning deeply and avoiding heat appliances where I can.
I would recommend this product, just be aware that as with any home hair colour, your own hair will have an effect on the colour outcome.
